Publishing Services

Kahua offers two core publishing services:

  • Administration – the collection of royalties due from the use of a songwriter’s copyrights
  • Development – finding further uses for the copyrights and negotiating licenses for their use

The role of Kahua as a publisher is to:

  • Register the works of songwriters and composers with all appropriate collecting societies and agencies
  • Monitor and track the use of assigned copyrights and ensure that proper payment is made for all licensed uses
  • Make royalty payments to songwriters and composers in respect of the usage of their music
  • Promote composers and songwriters to those who use music on a commercial basis such as performers, broadcasters, record companies and computer game developers
  • Negotiate licenses for the use of works
  • Take appropriate action against anyone using music without the necessary license

We acquire copyrights from songwriters and contract them to a specific agreement. We only control the copyrights that are given to us and do not contract songwriters to exclusive songwriting agreements (i.e. we don't own every song written while under contract) because we believe that the songwriter should be free to give their future catalogue to whomever they choose. In return for entire or partial ownership of songs, we administer the rights, collect the income and split it with the writer.

We pride ourselves on our reliable, responsive, efficient and transparent approach, together with a detailed knowledge of the industry and a passion for the music we work with.
