Income & Contracts
All songwriters and composers who publish their music through Kahua are signed to a contract detailing which copyrights they have assigned to us. We typically use 'single song assignments' meaning that we only control the copyrights that are given to us and do not contract songwriters to exclusive songwriting agreements (i.e. we don't own every song written while under contract). Our contracts contain information on the term of the agreement, the territory, how the income will be split between songwriters and Kahua for different uses of the songs (mechanical royalties, performance royalties and synchronisation fees) and how Kahua accounts to songwriters.
