Kahua Music is based in the north-east of England and was formed in 2005, initially as a record store. Kahua's promotion and publishing sections were formed in late 2007/early
2008 offering specialist services to record labels and artists working
within the house genre. The knowledge division of Kahua was added in early 2010 to provide consultancy and business development services.
The Team
Ian Straker
Kahua is headed up by Ian Straker, who has a passion for, and experience of, a wide range of areas within dance music. Ian's involvement in the music industry began whilst at University as a DJ, event organiser/promoter and as 'Head of Dance Music' at LCR Radio and have grown to include promotions and marketing, publishing, retail, distribution, licensing and almost all aspects of the music industry.
Ian is also co-owner of Lost My Dog Records where he is responsible for A&R and the day to day operation of the label, including scheduling, licensing, press, promotion and marketing. Many of Kahua Music's services have grown out of the experience and expertise gained from running Lost My Dog.
Craig Charsley
Craig is responsible for client reports and research at Kahua. He also runs his own company Cyborg Sound - an audio production centre specialising in music and audio design for computer games and film
Peter Morgan
Pete works with Kahua to provide our social media service. He also composes and produces house music as 'Pete Dafeet' and is one of the partners in Lost My Dog Records.

Promotions
Kahua provides promotional and marketing
services to record labels and artists, with a specific focus on house
music. Kahua works to promote music to club DJs, specialist radio
and specialist press, helps labels raise their profile and offers online
marketing solutions.
Our
bespoke online promo delivery system can also be licensed and branded
for use by other organisations wishing to send music and collect
feedback.
Publishing
Kahua works with
songwriters and composers to collect royalties due from the use of their
copyrights and to find further uses for their works, for example
through synchronisation licences to TV and film producers, advertisers
and computer game developers.
Knowledge
Kahua
offers independent consultancy and business development services on all
aspects of the music industry including marketing and promotions,
publishing, retail, record labels, contracts and deals.
